News from around the State of Oklahoma

ONR in HD beginning Monday

December 8th, 2008

(Mickie Smith, Jeff Morava, Debra Martin and Price Wooldridge work in OETA’s new HD production control room, during rehearsals on Friday.)

The Oklahoma News Report was not seen on Friday, December 5, but that doesn’t mean we did not produce a newscast. Let me explain. Friday’s newscast was a dress rehearsal for our first High Definition newscast, airing tonight (Monday, Dec. 8) at 6:30 p.m. Airing the Oklahoma News Report in HD is the next step in OETA’s long digital conversion process. Viewers with HD television sets and tuners will be able to watch the flagship nightly newscast in HD, with other programs to soon follow. We still have a long way to go as we work toward the national digital switchover on Feb. 17, 2009 and continue to improve and expand our digital capability and service, but producing the newscast in our new HD production studio is a monumental step.

The Oklahoma News Report looks fantastic in HD. Thank you for this wonderful addition to the lineup of high definition programming on OETA. Stay with the 16:9 formatting and you can letterbox the results on the SD feed.

There are occasions where the 16:9 appears flattened on some news footage. But the majority of the programming out in the field looks amazing. Now nightly viewing of ONR will be a must see in HD. Thanks again for the best HD in OKC.
