Low Speed Electric Car Tax Credit
February 9th, 2009The State of Oklahoma is offering a 50% Energy Tax Credit to people buying 100% electric low speed, street legal vehicles.

Low speed electric vehicles often look similar to a golf carts, but unlike golf carts and go-carts they are tagged, insured and driven just like a car. They also come equipped with safety equipment like three point seat belts, an auto glass windshield, head and tail lights and turn signals.

Ada Electric Cars is one of the first dealerships in the state selling the E-merge brand of all electric cars made in Georgia. The vehicles seat from two to six passengers and can be configured to replace seats with a truck style bed.

Roger Gaddis of Ada Electric Cars says properly tagged low speed electric cars are street legal anywhere in Oklahoma where the speed limit on the street is 35mph or less. He anticipates demand for the vehicles will come from those who want to lower their carbon footprint by lessening their depenence on fossil fuel powered vehicles and from people living in small towns with lower speed limits.
