Senator Coburn named in ethics complaint
April 1st, 2010A government watchdog group has filed ethics complaints against a group of lawmakers in the nation’s capitol.
The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington reports that 8 members of Congress, including U.S. Senator Tom Coburn have rented rooms below market value in a controversial Capitol Hill townhouse.
Another group of Ohio pastors have also filed complaints to the IRS. The pastors say they are concerned about separation of church and state. They filed one complaint with the IRS arguing that C Street has improperly declared itself a church for taxation purposes. The second complaint alleges that C Street’s rent is much lower than market value. It cites that the members are either not paying taxes on that extra income, or that they’re receiving unreported gifts.
